Re Action Target Systems
of North Carolina

Reaction Target Systems is a North Carolina-based rifle and handgun target manufacturing company. We use abrasive water-jet cutting technology to reduce any potential heat damage to the ballistic plate. To further ensure the integrity of the metal plate, there is no welding in the assembly of our target systems. All of our processes are proudly done in the United States by Vietnam Veterans, one Army “Boonie Rat” and one Navy Brown Water “River Rat.”

Reaction Target Systems are suspended steel targets designed to absorb the kinetic energy of a rifle or handgun round, greatly reducing the chances of ricochets, and provide muscle memory through sight, sound and movement.

When the round hits the suspended steel target, it will

  1. Peel paint away from around where the bullet hits, allowing the shooter to easily see where target is hit.
  2. Make a loud “gong” sound, instantly telling the shooter’s brain that they are on target.
  3. Rock backwards, instantly letting the shooter know by movement he has hit the target. This trains the muscles to react the same way each time they shoot.

Reaction Target System’s designs have a number of features that are very beneficial to the shooter.

  1. The hanging-bracket system enables the target plate to hang at an approximately 20 degree angle. When the round hits the target, the ricochets are already angled 20 degrees downward and not directly back at the shooter.
  2. The target plate’s ability to swing backwards absorbs much of the kinetic energy of the round, resulting in less damage to the target by the bullet.
  3. Our unique construction eliminates the need for tools to set up the target system. Set up can be accomplished quickly and easily by one person. The side shields prevent shrapnel from splattering other nearby targets.
  4. The target system takes up a very small amount of storage space in the trunk, pick-up bed or the garage.

Reaction Target Systems rifle target plates are made of 3/8” AR 500 steel. This steel has been ballistic tested to handle most target-rated rifle ammunition. It is not recommended that the shooter use low velocity handguns on rifle-rated targets; there might not be enough force to move the target, increasing the risk of ricochets*.

* Our handgun and rimfire target plates are made from thinner and lighter materials, specifically designed lower velocity ammunition.

The Reaction Target System comes unpainted, but otherwise it will be ready to take to the field and shoot. We recommend that you add a couple of cans of your favorite color spray-paint to your shooting bag. After an initial coat of paint, once enough shots make it hard to see where you are hitting you can paint it again to so you can clearly see where you are hitting. After you get back to your shooting line, the paint will be dry enough to reveal your shooting expertise.

We are developing an option for the longer-distance shooter that will pop up a flag of a different color to signal to the spotter that the target has been hit.

Reaction Target Systems are designed to be shot with High Power Rifles. Do NOT shoot closer than 100 yards.
